Review: Clockwork Prince

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices #2)
by Cassandra Clare
Paperback
Collector's Edition
496 pages
Published December 6th 2011 by Walker Books

Summary:
The situation at the London Institute has never been more precarious. With Mortmain and his clockwork army still threatening, the Council wants to strip Charlotte of her power and hand the running of the Enclave over to the unscrupulous and power-hungry Benedict Lightwood.

In the hope of saving Charlotte and the Institute, Will, Jem, and Tessa set out to unravel the secrets of Mortmain’s past—and discover unsettling Shadowhunter connections that hold the key not only to the enemy’s motivations, but also to the secret of Tessa’s identity. Tessa, already caught between the affections of Will and Jem, finds herself with another choice to make when she learns how the Shadowhunters helped make her a “monster.” Will she turn from them to her brother, Nate, who has been begging her to join him at Mortmain’s side? Where will her loyalties—and love—lie? Tessa alone can choose to save the Shadowhunters of London…or end them forever.

Thoughts:
The genius that is Cassie Clare certainly knows how to weave a tale so spell bindingly great that leave the readers wanting more. I was not a big fan of Clockwork Angel so I was reading this with some hesitation but really any doubts I have are really unfounded. This is amazing! I think The Infernal Devices is way better than the Mortal Instruments series. And it is all because of Jem. Sweet Jem. I've never fell in love with a fictional character this deep.

Cassie just has this way of making readers feel for her characters. And the interwoven layers of story just kept me glued to every word in the book. So many things are going on that you just can't miss any of it. This time, we get to know each and every character a little bit more especially Will and Jem. Bless you! Damn..I can't seemed to stop talking about Jem. (Takes deep breath..)

Dislikes
I think that because Cassie focussed so much on perfecting her male characters that the female characters left a lot to be desired. Tessa is so uncertain in her feelings at times going back and forth from Will to Jem that I simply found it annoying. Charlotte is supposed to be the leader but she depended so much on her younger subordinates which is quite risky to say the least. I think I only profoundly like Sophie in this one.

Hmm..need I comment more on these? Other than the above mentioned character that I simply love, the fantastical mystery surrounding the Shadowhunters are very intriguing. I mean..really where did she get all these ideas? Demon pox? That made me cracked up. The ending is quite satisfying because quite a few things got resolved except for the little love triangle of course.

Verdict: 5 stars.

  1. I agree with you completely! Cassandra Clare is a GENIUS! I loved this book, which I think was better than Clockwork Angel because some questions were answered. I have to say that I like Will better though. Demon pox was so unexpected that I laughed too. :) Tessa's undecison about Jem and Will annoys me a bit as well. I have no idea how this love triangle will end. I can't wait to read the last book of this trilogy.

  4. It's so funny because I felt that way about Mortal Instruments. It was a love/hate thing for me. I was so mad at the end, but I'm glad I kept reading because I ended up loving the series! And I agree with you, Infernal Devices is a better series and Jem is a great character, though I actually like Will better! *hides* Cassandra Clare is definitely good at twisting your guts around and keeping you in agony, that's for sure!

  5. I love this book! Cassandra Clare just started to amaze me :) I haven't read yet the The Mortal Instruments, awaiting for the Clockwork Princess and for final untangling of that messy love-triangle. Team Will, of course :) Not that I have anything against Jem, he is also wonderful. Great book and a great review too :)

    Best regards, Diana

  7. I agree, Cassandra Clare really knows how to keep her readers hooked to the story. And you do make a good point on her female characters. They sound similar to what happened in The Mortal Instruments. But I still enjoyed the story LOL. Hopefully I'll enjoy this series as well.

I've just ordered this book and can't wait for it to arrive :D
