Haden Lord, the disgraced prince of the Underrealm, has been sent to the mortal world to entice a girl into returning with him to the land of the dead. Posing as a student at Olympus Hills High—a haven for children of the rich and famous—Haden must single out the one girl rumored to be able to restore immortality to his race.

Daphne Raines has dreams much bigger than her tiny southern Utah town, so when her rock star dad suddenly reappears, offering her full tuition to Olympus Hills High’s prestigious music program, she sees an opportunity to catch the break she needs to make it as a singer. But upon moving into her estranged father’s mansion in California, and attending her glamorous new school, Daphne soon realizes she isn’t the only student in Olympus who doesn’t quite belong.

Haden and Daphne—destined for each other—know nothing of the true stakes their fated courtship entails. As war between the gods brews, the teenagers’ lives collide. But Daphne won’t be wooed easily and when it seems their prophesied link could happen, Haden realizes something he never intended—he’s fallen in love. Now to save themselves, Haden and Daphne must rewrite their destinies. But as their destinies change, so do the fates of both their worlds.

Honestly, I did not know what I was getting into when I first started this book since I decided not to check out the Goodreads reviews before I started it. So I had no inkling whatsover that this is another retelling of the Greek mythology involving Hades and Persephone. I feel as if I've been duped by that cover, the title and the first chapter into thinking that this is an epic fantasy about some prince trying to redeemed himself through quests given by the mysterious Oracle.

I certainly thought that the story had a certain Viking quality to it what with all the testosterone thrown in the first chapter where all the mention of Underlords, the Elites, the Lessers whom are trying so hard to prove which of them are the strongest and to be picked as the Champion for the oh so mysterious quest.I mean the story certainly had potential before the word Boon was mentioned and I had a serious foreboding that the plot will go downhill pretty soon.

And yeah it did. Apparently every year in the Underrealm, one of the Underlords will be chosen as Champion to procure new Boons for the Court's harem. These so-called Boons are young girls taken from the mortal world. And sooner or later these Boons will die in the Underrealm just like Haden's dear departed mother which is kind of sad and depressing in my opinion.

Yes, I had a hard time reading through the ridiculous plot and even the characters just failed to impress me. Lord Haden is the egoistical second son of King Ren who was chosen to be this year Champion. And the Boon in question is Daphne, a musically talented daughter of a rock star. She was supposed to be special but I really don't get why. Her ability to be able to follow some sound or song and trying to locate the source is so ludicrous. Apparently she can hear melodies from living things such as trees, groves, people.

In short, this book at 512 pages with its ridiculous plot and bland characters just felt too long in my opinion.
